Meet Mari Gingery, a biochemistry graduate from Los Angeles who's not just a climber, but a legendary one at that. Her passion for climbing knows no bounds, as she would test her physical limits every weekend on the rocks in Southern California's Stoney Point, Joshua Tree, and in the majestic Yosemite Valley. And as Lynn Hill's climbing partner, Mari has experienced every possible challenge as a groundbreaking athlete.
It was an absolute honor to spend a few days with Mari, exploring the boulders of Joshua Tree and witnessing her unwavering passion for climbing. As a film director, I was given the opportunity to create a series of films for Brighthouse Financial, showcasing passionate individuals at a later stage in their lives. We wanted to challenge the conventional notion of retirement and show that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing your passions.
Our goal was to inspire the audience and prove that one can kick ass later in life, regardless of their age. And what better way to do it than by portraying the inspiring journey of Mari Gingery.
We aimed to capture the raw emotions and the beauty of the process behind Mari's journey. With every frame, we wanted to convey the message that passion knows no bounds, and that age should never be a barrier to pursuing one's dreams. We hope that our film will inspire everyone to break free from the constraints of society's notions of age and live life to the fullest, just like Mari Gingery.
